Charge Controller Info

The main function of a charge controller or regulator is to protect your battery from excess current and voltage.

When a battery reaches full charge, it can no longer store incoming energy. If the system continues to apply a charge, the battery voltage and temperature rises. The charge controller closely monitors the battery voltage and automatically reduces the flow of energy to the battery bank.

If you connect your solar array to batteries without overcharge protection, you could compromise the life of your batteries. Too much charge can lead to overheating, a rapid loss of water, and an excess release of hydrogen gases, which can build up, ignite, and cause an explosion.

Solar panel charge controllers are an essential part of your off-grid system. Without them, your batteries will degrade much faster than their expected lifespan.
